The Flavors of Friendship

By Marian Pontz

As you enter Himalayan Curry and Grill – a cozy establishment on E. Orange Street in downtown Lancaster – you can't help but notice the many awards that line their walls, as well as the array of thank you notes and holiday cards from customers, sent to the restaurant’s team in appreciation of not just their great food and winning service, but also their atmosphere of invitation, acceptance, and even love.

I am lucky enough to be greeted each time I visit with a huge hug from Owner Shrestha Sarmila and her welcoming words, “It's so lovely to see you.” So many of us all come to look forward to her greetings of love and kindness. It is hard to describe the joy it gives me to enter this restaurant and be greeted like I’m Norm from Cheers.

Our family's favorite is the lunch buffet, which runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every day except Sundays. For less than $15 per person, you’ll choose from a selection of fresh vegetable and meat dishes, Naan, rice, and their delicious rice pudding. Even my vegan son finds plenty to eat and enjoy every time. It’s truly the best lunch deal in Lancaster County!

There are a plethora of buffets in Lancaster County – but none have the wonderful Shrestha Samila, who greets you like a long-lost friend and wants to share her delicious food, loving smiles, and warm embraces. Sarmilia and her team have created what we all crave – a place where we feel seen and cared for.
