Second Breakfast

Catching Up with Michelle Cruz and Dennis Mitchell of Dinner with the Breakfast Club

By Mark Pontz

Over the years, one of my very favorite features in this magazine has always been Dinner with the Breakfast Club. In this series, we took Michelle Cruz and Dennis Mitchell, radio personalities and a morning team, to different dining establishments around Lancaster County. A new restaurant was featured in each issue, over the course of many years. This feature story ceased only because their radio station was sold and changed formats and, unfortunately, there simply was no more Breakfast Club. I could not let FLL come to a close without a revisiting Dinner with the Breakfast Club and chatting once more with these two spectacular people… a second breakfast, if you will.
In the years since the station sale, Cruz has remained incredibly busy with her voiceover business; you can hear her locally on commercials for Lancaster Toyota and Mazda, as well as Annie Bailey’s and Per Deim – to name just a few. Her soothing tones can also be heard across the country. So, when you’re traveling, and turn on local broadcast TV or radio, be sure to keep your ears open for her distinctive voice.

Mitchell has remained in radio as a Continuity/Production Director and on-air personality on 96.1 SOX. You can also hear him nationally, as well as on Armed Forces radio in Europe and Asia, as he is syndicated on approximately 50 markets for the Westwood One Active Rock format.

In chatting with these former broadcast partners, it felt that time has truly stood still, as they still look, act, and sound exactly as I remember them from the very first edition of Dinner with the Breakfast Club. And no matter what they do next, I’ll be listening.
